Sad news about Sir Bobby

The football world lost a true great today as Sir Bobby Robson passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Sir Bobby had a distinguished career in football including playing for and managing England. He spent significant time abroad having spells as manager of Barcelona, Porto and PSV Eindhoven winning leagues and cups along the way. He was a true gent and the world of football is a poorer place with his loss.

We are rumoured to be ready to firm up our interest in Blaise Matuidi by making an offer of £8m to St Etienne for the young midfielder.

He seems a typical Wenger signing but I must confess to not knowing a whole lot about the young Frenchman, but it’s definitely a position we need to strengthen.

The report also talks of our interest in bringing Patrick Vieira home and I for one would love to see Paddy pulling on the red shirt again. The move to bring him home makes sense on every level; He would be a cheap option, he wouldn't take any time to adapt and he could pass on a wealth of knowledge and experience to our young squad. If we could sign Vieira on a pay as you play contract akin to the deal agreed by Michael Owen at Utd we have nothing to lose.

We have also been linked with a move for Italian international midfielder Daniele De Rossi

De Rossi is a fantastic player and is one of the symbols of Roma and for this reason I don't see this one happening. He would cost upwards of £20m and all in all won't be joining us.

Fiorentina are haggling over Eboues transfer fee.

Don't get greedy Arsene, just let him go.

More Tomorrow....
